Choosing Your Window Treatments

12 questions
How do I choose the right fabric and color?

Each fabric offers a different look, texture, level of privacy, and light control, so choose the qualities that best suit your space, followed by a color that complements your interior. Since colors and textures can appear different on screen, we recommend ordering free fabric swatches. Not sure which to choose? Try our Curated Swatches service or email us at design@cozyology.com.

Which curtain header style should I choose?

The best header depends on your preferred look and existing rod or track. Header styles and hardware are not always interchangeable:

  • Pleated styles: Use compatible rings, hooks, or traverse hardware.
  • Ripple Fold: Requires a compatible track and carriers.
  • Grommet & Soft Top: Designed for a compatible curtain rod.

Compare styles in our Header Guide. If you already have hardware or plan to use rings, hooks, a ceiling track, or motorization, email a photo and the product link to design@cozyology.com before ordering. We’ll help confirm compatibility.

What lining should I choose?

Choose a lining based on your desired light control and hardware weight capacity. Our linings filter 40%–100% of light—compare them in our Liner Guide. Since lining weights vary, use the Curtain Weight Calculator to estimate the finished weight. If you’re unsure which lining or weight is right, email us at design@cozyology.com.

What is memory shaping, and should I add it?

Memory shaping uses steam and heat setting to help curtains maintain clean, consistent pleats. Add it for a structured, polished look.

  • Header styles: Compatible except Soft Top (Pinch Pleat with Back Tab only) and Ripple Fold with Tape Buckle.
  • Fabrics: Compatible with most fabrics, except select options such as The Pure Collection. Check the product page for availability.
  • Panel width: Available up to 141". For wider windows, divide the width into two panels.
Is this rod or track compatible with my curtain header?

Hardware requirements vary by header style:

  • Pleated: Compatible hooks with curtain rings or track carriers.
  • Grommet & Soft Top: A compatible curtain rod.
  • Ripple Fold: A compatible track or traverse rod with the correct carrier system.

Confirm the curtain header and hardware specifications before ordering. For help verifying compatibility, email links to both products to design@cozyology.com.

Can I order fabric swatches before purchasing?

Yes. You can order up to 20 complimentary fabric swatches to see and feel the colors and textures in your own home.

A $9.90 shipping fee applies, and you will receive a $10 gift card to use toward a custom window-treatment purchase.

We recommend viewing the swatches in your room during both daytime and evening lighting before making your final selection.

Which Roman shade fold and lift style should I choose?

Choose the fold style based on your preferred look:

  • Flat Fold: Creates a clean, tailored appearance.
  • Relaxed Fold: Creates a soft, graceful curve.

For lift style:

  • Cordless: Offers a clean look with convenient manual operation.
  • Motorized: Ideal for large, high, or frequently used windows. App and voice control may require a compatible smart hub or Matter-enabled device.

Explore more fold and lift options in our Roman Shade Style Guide. Availability varies by product.

What if the fabric or color swatch I want is not listed?

Some available fabrics or colors may not yet appear in the swatch selector. Please email the collection name and color code to design@cozyology.com so we can confirm availability. If the swatch is available, our team will send you the correct swatch link or explain how to include the requested code in the notes of your swatch order. Please wait for confirmation before placing the order, because availability can change.

What size are Cozyology fabric swatches?

Cozyology swatch sizes vary by type:

  • Fabric swatch card: 3.9" × 3.9"
  • Fabric booklet: 4.1" × 4.1"
  • Handwoven shade swatch card: 4.7" × 5.9"
  • Border trim swatch: 2.6" × 6.3"

Sizes may vary slightly between individual swatches, booklets, and swatch boxes. For a larger sample, order a Fabric Sample, available in 10" × 20", 20" × 40", or 40" × 80". If you’re unsure which sample to order, email us at design@cozyology.com.

Why choose custom drapes instead of ready-made curtains?

Custom drapes are made specifically for your windows, giving you better proportions, a more polished appearance, and greater control over the fabric, color, fullness, lining, length, and header style.

Instead of adapting your room to standard curtain sizes, you receive window treatments designed around your space and style.

How much light will woven shades block?

Woven shades are made from natural-looking woven materials that filter light, and some weaves may allow visible gaps or silhouettes. Tighter or darker weaves generally provide more privacy, while a liner can increase privacy and light control.

Because the result varies by material and room lighting, please review the fabric details and liner options on the selected product page.

Can I add a privacy or blackout liner to woven shades?

Yes. All Handwoven Shades can be paired with either a 60% privacy liner or a 100% blackout liner. Because of the light, open weave, we recommend adding a liner for a more substantial feel, greater privacy, and better light control. Choose unlined only if you prefer a light, airy look. For help choosing, email design@cozyology.com.

Measuring and Ordering

23 questions
Why did the price change after I selected custom options?

The starting price is updated as you select the final width and length, fabric, header, lining, memory shaping, tiebacks, motorization, hardware, or other available custom options. The cart reflects the configuration you selected. If the total looks unexpected, review the selected options or email design@cozyology.com with a screenshot before checking out.

Why isn’t my discount code working, and can discounts be combined?

Check the code’s expiration date, minimum purchase, eligible products, account restrictions, and spelling. Checkout will indicate whether the promotion can be combined with another discount; only offers specifically marked as combinable can be used together. Gift cards are handled separately from promotional discount codes. If the code still does not apply, email design@cozyology.com with the code and a screenshot of your cart.

Can I change or cancel my order?

You may cancel or adjust your order within 12 hours of order confirmation at no charge.

After 12 hours and before shipment, a 15% fee applies because materials may already have been reserved and production may have started.

Once the order has shipped, it can no longer be canceled, adjusted, or refunded. Please review the measurements, fabric, color, lining, header style, and quantity as soon as you receive your order confirmation.

Can Cozyology help confirm my measurements before I order?

Yes. Our remote measurement support is complimentary. You can:

Please include a full photo of the window and surrounding wall, width and height measurements, existing hardware, and your preferred fabric, style, and finished length.

Is fullness already included in the width I order?

Yes. Cozyology has already built the recommended fullness into our ordering system. Most drapery styles use approximately 2.2× fullness, based on more than 30 years of curtain-industry experience.

You only need to enter the finished coverage width required for each panel. Do not multiply that width by 2.2—the ordering system accounts for the additional fabric needed to create the pleats and fullness.

If you prefer a fuller or more tailored appearance, we can customize it for you. Please contact design@cozyology.com before ordering.

What width should I enter when ordering pleated drapery?

Measure the full width of the rod or track area you want the curtains to cover, then enter the finished coverage width required for each panel—not the flat fabric width.

View reference image

For a pair, divide the total coverage width between two panels. For example, a 100" coverage width requires two 50" panels. Fullness (≈2.2×) is already built in, so no additional fullness calculation is needed.

For returns, overlaps, corners, or unusual layouts, email photos and measurements to design@cozyology.com before ordering.

How many rings, hooks, or pleats will I need?

Use our Pleat & Stacked Width Calculator to calculate the required number of pleats, rings, and hooks based on your order width.

  • Required hooks are included with compatible drapery.
  • Grommet and most Soft Top styles do not require hooks.
  • Curtain rings can be added when selecting your drapery, with your preferred color, for an additional cost.
  • Track carriers are included with the purchase of a track.

For help confirming quantities, email design@cozyology.com.

How much stack-back space should I allow for my drapery?

Stack-back is the space your drapery occupies when fully open. It varies by fabric thickness, lining, header style, fullness, and opening direction.

Use our Pleat & Stacked Width Calculator to estimate the stacked width from your order width—or calculate the order width based on your desired stack-back. To keep the open drapery off the glass, extend the rod or track beyond the window opening.

For help, email your window width, available wall space, selected drapery and hardware, and a full photo to design@cozyology.com.

Will my drapery have a vertical seam?

A vertical seam may be required depending on the finished size, fabric width, and header style. This is a standard construction method for wide custom drapery. The seam is carefully positioned within the folds, making it subtle when the curtain is extended and even less noticeable when stacked.

View reference image

Learn more in our Curtain Seam Guide, or email design@cozyology.com to confirm whether your drapery will require a seam.

Why can the finished curtain width be wider than the width I ordered?

Pleated drapery is handcrafted, and the folds can spring back after sewing. Because of this, a finished panel may measure approximately 4–10 inches wider than the ordered coverage width.

This extra allowance is intentional. It helps the panels cover the hardware at both sides and close fully in the center without leaving a gap. It does not mean that additional fullness needs to be added when you order.

What size and weight capacity should I choose?

Choose hardware based on the total span, finished curtain weight, mounting surface, and installation method.

Longer spans and heavier curtains may require additional center supports. For wide or heavy installations, email your measurements and curtain selection to design@cozyology.com before ordering.

How do I measure my windows correctly?

Use a metal tape measure and follow our Measurement Tool for step-by-step guidance. It covers different setups—including windows without a rod, existing tracks, and outside-mount shades—and calculates the required dimensions for you.

Measure the full installation area, not just the window frame, and record all measurements in inches. If you’re unsure about your results, email your measurements and window photos to design@cozyology.com, and we’ll help confirm them before ordering.

How do I enter fractional width or height measurements?

Fraction options vary by product. When a Fraction dropdown is available, enter the whole-inch measurement first, then select the remaining fraction. For example, enter 40⅝" as 40 with selected.

Minimum increments:

  • Drapery: ½"
  • Shades: ⅛"
  • Custom Hardware: ½"

Ronan Angle Traverse Rod uses ½" increments and does not require a separate Fraction selection. Only use the increments available on the selected product page.

Do I order one panel or a pair?

Choose based on how you want your curtains to open:

  • Single panel: Enter the full rod coverage width. The panel covers the entire rod and stacks to one side.
  • Split panels: Order two panels and enter half of the total rod coverage width for each. The panels meet in the center and stack to both sides.

View reference image

The order width refers to the rod area each panel will cover—not the flat fabric width. Fullness is already built in. For help confirming the quantity and width, email design@cozyology.com.

I placed an order but didn’t receive an order number or confirmation email. What should I do?

First, check the spam or junk folder for the email address used at checkout. If you are signed in to your Cozyology account, confirm that your account email matches the email used for the order. Also verify that payment was completed and allow a few minutes for the confirmation to arrive.

If you still cannot find it, email care@cozyology.com with your full name, checkout email, payment date, and payment receipt. Please do not place a duplicate order unless our team confirms that the first attempt was unsuccessful.

How do I place an order?

Select the product you want and choose the available options, such as fabric, color, size, header, lining, and hardware. Review the quantity and add the configured item to your cart. Check all measurements and selections carefully. Enter your shipping and payment information at checkout. Apply an eligible discount code and place the order. An order confirmation will be sent to the email address entered at checkout. For help before ordering, email design@cozyology.com.

Where can I view my placed order?

Log in to your Cozyology account using the same email address used at checkout. Your previous orders will appear in your order history, even if you were not signed in when placing them.

If an order is missing, email your checkout email and order number to care@cozyology.com for assistance.

Why was my payment declined?

A payment may be declined because of incorrect card details, a billing-address mismatch, insufficient funds, online or international transaction restrictions, bank fraud protection, or a temporary payment-network issue.

Check the information, contact your bank if needed, or try another payment method shown at checkout. If the order still cannot be completed, email a screenshot of the error message to design@cozyology.com. Do not include your full card number or security code.

What payment methods do you accept?

We currently accept:

  • Digital payments: PayPal and Afterpay
  • Credit and debit cards: Visa, American Express (AMEX), Diners Club, Discover, Mastercard, Elo, JCB, and UnionPay

Available methods may vary by country, currency, browser, or device. The payment options shown at checkout are the ones available for your order.

What are the size limits for Roman shades?

Size limits vary by product, fabric, fold style, headrail, and lift system. The selected product page will show the measurements accepted for that configuration.

For oversized or non-standard windows, email design@cozyology.com with the opening dimensions and installation photos so we can review the best option.

How much of the window will a Roman shade cover when fully raised?

The fabric remaining at the top when a Roman shade is fully raised is called the stack height. It varies by shade style, finished length, fabric, lining, lift system, and mounting method.

Use our Roman Shade Stack Height Calculator for an estimate. Actual stack height may vary by fabric. To preserve more visible glass, consider positioning an outside-mount shade higher above the window.

For help, email your window dimensions, mounting space, selected fabric, fold style, and a photo to design@cozyology.com.

Does Cozyology make a deduction for inside-mount shades?

Inside-mount shades require a ⅜" deduction from the measured window width. Use our Shades Measurement Tool, and it will apply the deduction automatically—do not deduct it again.

If entering measurements without the tool, subtract ⅜" from the exact inside width before ordering. If you’re unsure, email design@cozyology.com.

Should I choose an inside or outside mount?

Choose an inside mount for a clean, built-in look, or an outside mount for greater coverage, improved light control, and a larger-looking window.

Inside mounts require accurate measurements and sufficient window depth—the deeper, the better. Minimum depths vary by product:

  • Roman Shades: 2"
  • Handwoven Shades: 2¾"
  • Roller Shades: 3⅛"
  • Motorized Shades: 3"

If your window does not meet the minimum depth, choose an outside mount. For help deciding, email photos and measurements to design@cozyology.com.

Production and Delivery

5 questions
How long will my custom order take?

Most custom items require approximately 5–8 business days for production. Some products may require 8–10 business days.

Air shipping generally takes approximately 5–8 business days after production is completed.

Your estimated delivery time includes both production and transit time. Weekends, holidays, severe weather, and carrier delays may affect the final delivery date.

Are duties and taxes included?

Applicable customs duties, import taxes, and VAT are included in the final checkout price. You should not be charged additional duties upon delivery.

Will curtains, shades, and hardware arrive in separate shipments?

Items in the same order may ship separately because custom curtains, shades, hardware, and samples can have different production times, packaging requirements, or fulfillment locations. If the order is split, you may receive more than one shipment and tracking number. A separate shipment does not necessarily mean an item is missing. Review all tracking emails before contacting design@cozyology.com about an incomplete delivery.

How can I track my order?

Once your order has shipped, we’ll email you the carrier name and tracking information. Orders may ship via UPS, FedEx, or DHL, depending on the destination and service availability. Tracking may take a short time to update after the shipping label is created.

You can also check your shipment on our Track Your Order page.

Where does Cozyology ship?

Cozyology offers worldwide shipping. We currently provide free worldwide shipping on drapes, shades, and accessories. Any applicable shipping charge will be displayed at checkout before payment.

We cannot ship to PO Boxes or military addresses. Please provide a valid residential or business street address.

Returns, Remakes, and Warranty

6 questions
Can custom products be exchanged?

Custom products cannot be exchanged for non-quality reasons once production begins. If you provided incorrect measurements or selected the wrong style after the 12-hour modification window, eligible remake requests submitted within 30 days of delivery may receive our Safety Net discount:

  • 45% off with air shipping
  • 65% off with sea shipping

If your order arrives damaged, defective, or does not match the confirmed specifications due to a Cozyology error, email your order number and clear photos of the product and packaging to care@cozyology.com. Our team will review the issue and provide an appropriate resolution.

Can custom curtains or shades be returned?

Custom drapery, shades, and custom-size hardware are made specifically to your confirmed measurements and selections. Once production begins, custom products cannot be returned, exchanged, or refunded for non-quality reasons, including changes of mind, color preference, customer-provided measurement errors, natural dye-lot variations, or accepted industry tolerances. We recommend ordering fabric swatches and asking design@cozyology.com to review your measurements before production begins.

Is there a warranty?

Yes. Cozyology offers a Limited Lifetime Warranty covering qualifying manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship for as long as the original purchaser owns the product.

The warranty does not cover normal wear, misuse, improper installation or care, natural fabric or dye-lot variations, customer measurement errors, or changes in personal preference.

Please follow the provided installation and care instructions to protect your window treatments.

What happens if Cozyology makes my order incorrectly?

If your order arrives damaged, defective, or does not match the confirmed specifications because of a manufacturing error, please contact design@cozyology.com promptly. Include your order number, a description of the issue, clear photos of the product, and photos of the inner and outer packaging. Once the issue has been reviewed and verified, we will provide an appropriate solution, which may include repair, replacement, remake, or another resolution under our Returns & Refunds Policy.

What happens if I measure incorrectly?

We understand that measurement mistakes can happen. Although correctly made custom products cannot be returned due to customer-provided measurements, eligible remake requests submitted within 30 days of delivery may receive 45% off a replacement order. Please email design@cozyology.com with your order number, measurements, and photos. Our team will review the situation and help identify the best solution.

How long does it take for a refund to reach my original payment method?

Approved refunds are processed within 3 business days and returned to the original payment method. The time required to appear in your account may vary by payment provider or bank. If the refund has not appeared within the timeframe stated in your confirmation, contact your bank first, then email your order number and refund confirmation to design@cozyology.com.

Installation and Care

6 questions
How should I care for my curtains?

Care requirements vary by fabric and lining. Always follow the care instructions listed for your selected product.

For regular maintenance, gently vacuum the curtains using a soft brush attachment. Avoid bleach, harsh detergents, high heat, and tumble drying unless the product-specific instructions expressly allow them.

Professional dry cleaning may be recommended for certain fabrics.

How do I adjust the curtain hooks?

Slide the adjustable hook up or down to fine-tune the curtain height, then insert it securely into the header tape and attach it to the ring or track carrier. Keep all hooks at the same setting so the curtain hangs evenly.

  • Lower the curtain by up to ⅜".
  • Raise the curtain by up to 2⅛".

View reference image

Watch our Curtain Hook Adjustment Video for step-by-step instructions.

How do I hang Ripple Fold curtains with belt hooks?

The belt hooks are pre-installed before shipping. Simply attach each hook to the corresponding carrier on a compatible Ripple Fold track. If you purchase a Cozyology track, follow its installation video for hanging instructions. If you plan to use your own track, email us at design@cozyology.com so we can confirm compatibility.

What is the return or side-tuck size for drapery?

The return, or side tuck, is the portion of the drapery that turns toward the wall to create a finished edge and reduce light gaps. A button is included to secure the side edge in place. Typical overall depth ranges from 3½" to 5¼".

Distance from the hardware attachment to the back of the drapery varies by style:

  • Pleated with rings: 2⅛"
  • Ripple Fold: 2½"
  • Grommet: 2⅝"

The sewn heading makes the upper portion slightly narrower, while the lower portion spreads more naturally. See our Handcrafted Drapery Details for more information. For a custom layout, email photos and hardware measurements to design@cozyology.com.

What hardware and installation parts are included?

The included parts vary by product and may include brackets, fasteners, rings, or track carriers as stated on the product page. Curtains, installation tools, and special fasteners for your wall or ceiling material are not included unless specifically listed. Please review the product page’s Configuration section before ordering.

Is professional installation required?

Many Cozyology window treatments can be installed by the customer or a local handyman by following the provided instructions. The appropriate installation method depends on the product, selected hardware, and wall or ceiling material. If you are unsure about mounting or hardware compatibility, email photos to design@cozyology.com before ordering or consult a qualified local installer.

Motorization

11 questions
Which curtains and shades are available with motorization?

Motorization availability varies by product style:

  • Drapery: Available for Pleated and Ripple Fold styles. Grommet and most Soft Top styles are not compatible.
  • Roman Shades: Available for most styles and collections, except Tulip Relaxed and Top Down Bottom Up.
  • Handwoven Shades: Available with motorization.
  • Roller Shades: Available with motorization.

Motorized products include remote control. App and voice control may require a compatible smart hub or Matter-enabled device. View the List of Supported Devices.

Check the selected product page or email design@cozyology.com to confirm compatibility before ordering.

Is professional installation required?

No. Cozyology motorized curtains and shades are designed for straightforward installation. Follow the step-by-step videos in our Installation Guides; select products also include a printed installation manual.

Installation requirements vary by product, hardware, and wall or ceiling material. If you need help, email photos of the installation area to design@cozyology.com before ordering.

How are they powered?

Cozyology motorized products offer two power options, depending on the product and configuration:

  • Rechargeable battery: Typically lasts 3–6 months per charge, depending on product size and usage.
  • Plug-in: Requires continuous access to a nearby power outlet.

If you’re unsure whether a motorized product will work for your space, email photos and measurements to design@cozyology.com.

Can motorized shades be operated during a power outage?

Rechargeable motorized treatments can continue operating during a power outage as long as the battery has sufficient charge. Plug-in motor configurations will not operate until power is restored.

Do not try to force the treatment by hand unless the product instructions specifically state that manual operation is supported.

How long does the rechargeable battery typically last?

A rechargeable motor typically lasts 3–6 months between charges. Actual battery life depends on the product size and weight, frequency of use, and automated schedules. Recharge the motor when the low-battery indicator appears or operation becomes slower. Plug-in motors do not require recharging.

How do I choose between a 1-channel and multi-channel remote?

Choose a 1-channel remote for one motorized window treatment. Choose a multi-channel remote to control several treatments individually from one remote. Available channel options vary by product and motor. Please review the remote options shown on the selected product page.

What are the size limits for motorized shades?

Size limits vary by shade type, fabric, fold style, motor, and headrail. For general Roman Shade specifications, review our Roman Shade Style Guide. Exact limits vary by fabric and fold style, so always check the selected product page before ordering.

For oversized or non-standard windows, email the dimensions and installation photos to design@cozyology.com.

What’s the difference between smart curtains and smart shades?

All Cozyology motorized products offer remote operation. Motorized curtains, Roman Shades, Handwoven Shades, and Roller Shades can also be controlled through an app or voice assistant when paired with a compatible smart hub or Matter-enabled device. Compatibility and hub requirements vary by motor option and smart-home ecosystem. Please check the selected product page or email design@cozyology.com before ordering.

Which smart-home platforms are supported?

Cozyology motorized curtains, Roman Shades, Handwoven Shades, and Roller Shades can support app and voice control when paired with a compatible smart hub or Matter-enabled device. View the List of Supported Devices.

Compatibility varies by the selected motor and product configuration. Please check the selected product page or email design@cozyology.com with your preferred smart-home ecosystem before ordering.

Do I need a compatible smart hub?

Many motorized configurations can be operated by remote without a smart hub. App or voice control may require a compatible hub, gateway, or Matter border router, depending on the selected motor and smart-home system.

Please confirm the compatibility information on the product page or email design@cozyology.com before ordering.

What’s the warranty?

Cozyology drapery and hardware products, including motorized components, are covered under our warranty. Coverage varies by product and component. Review our Warranty Policy for complete coverage, exclusions, and claim requirements.
